October 2018

STEM Day Camp on 22 October 2018

PL partnered with the UNwomen on STEM to conduct a day camp on 22 October for our lower secondary students. The day started with an engaging speaker, Ms Clair Deevy from Facebook, who shared her insights and career journey in Microsoft and Facebook. Thereafter, the various hands-on STEM activities comprising of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics were conducted in classrooms by facilitators from Hewlett-Packard (a well known tech company). The aim of developing skills, such as creativity, critical thinking, collaboration and communication, was achieved as students worked with their peers on team activities and presented their ideas. In the same light, these hands-on applications serve to introduce our students to real-life STEM careers in a fun and challenging way.

PL (Sec) Parents' Appreciation Breakfast

Our special heartfelt thanks to the PLMC for sponsoring the Parents' Appreciation Breakfast held on 15 October 2018. We thank God for the many parents, both past and present, who have been channels of inspiration and blessing to our school in so many ways!

Founder's Day Thanksgiving Service & Reunion Dinner

On 12 October 2018 (Friday), Paya Lebar Methodist Girls’ School (Primary and Secondary) celebrated our 102nd Founder’s Day with the theme, In Favour with God and Man. In keeping with tradition, the celebrations started with the Thanksgiving Service in the morning and the Thanksgiving and Reunion Dinner was held in the evening at Fairmont Hotel.

The Thanksgiving service was hosted by PL Secondary and Mrs Quek Li Gek opened the service by extolling the 100 years of God’s Faithfulness that PL had received. The Guest-of-Honour, Rev Aaron Tay, Director of Ministry in Schools, lauded the three desires that our students should aspire to uphold: to grow in wisdom; to learn from the past, others and our experiences and to seek to do what is good and right. After his uplifting sermon, we witnessed the students’ exemplification of the HEART values in their achievements over the year through a video montage. Following that, Professor Hum Sin Hoon presented the achievement and service awards to the students and staff. In her valedictory speech, Miss Rachelle Tok Rui Qi (Primary) shared her gratitude for her nurturing teachers and good friends who made her years in PL memorable while Miss Enrica Goh Si’En (Secondary) paid tribute to her teachers who helped her through her journey in school. The ceremony closed with the beautiful hymn, ‘Let Our Flame Burn Brighter’, by the combined PL Primary and Secondary choirs.

At Fairmont Hotel, PL Alumni, staff and students came together for Thanksgiving with the theme ‘Let Your Light Shine’. The event was graced by Guest-of-Honour and beloved teacher, Mrs Claudette M. Poulier. It was a beautiful night of worship and praise of the Lord for his 102 years of blessings and PL Alumni reminisced their fond memories of their teachers and friends. Mrs Poulier also wrote and launched her book, ‘Once a Teacher, Always a Teacher’, where she recounted her memorable teaching moments in PL. The 102nd Founder’s Day celebration ended with everyone’s heart brimming with joy.
