Hosting Visitors from Dalian No.44 Middle School

On 5 August, PLMGS (Sec) welcomed 20 pupils and 4 staff from our sister school, Dalian No. 44 Middle School, China for our twinning programme. The pupils attended classes lessons with the PL-Lites, including Physical Education, Home Economics as well as Design and Technology. They were introduced to the art of Hanna Tattoo, Indian pastries, Malay costumes and the traditional ethnic games. They visited the various CCAs including the Harp Ensemble, Guzheng Tuan and Handbell Choir. During their stay here, our foreign friends also visited several places of interest such as Sentosa, the Singapore Flyer, Esplanade – Theatres by the Bay, Chinatown, Little India and the Malay Cultural Village. To round up their immersion, they performed a choral item entitled “The Sea is our Homeland” at our National Day Concert on 8 August. Overall, our guests from Dalian enjoyed themselves very much and learnt new things about Singapore.

46th National Day Celebration

PL celebrated our nation’s 46th birthday with Mr Alvin Yeo, BBM, Chairman, Pasir Ris West CCC as our Guest of Honour. This year, the National Day message was read in English and in our three mother tongue languages, namely; Malay, Tamil and Chinese. This was followed by a spectacular school National Day Parade comprising the Girls’ Brigade, the St John Brigade, the National Police Cadet Corps and the School Concert Band. This was also a day when PL-Lites received their colour awards for outstanding achievement and contribution to their CCA. The celebration concluded on a high note with enthusiastic and passionate choruses, cheers and performances by staff and pupils.
