Direct School Admission to Secondary One in 2021

Paya Lebar Methodist Girls’ School (Secondary) is a school with a family culture, anchored on Christian beliefs and values. We believe in providing a holistic education for all our students and stretching each one to their fullest potential. Besides a strong academic programme with value-added results for both our Express and Normal Streams, we also have a vibrant culture of Music, Arts and Sports. Due to the current COVID-19 situation, this year, girls applying for Direct School Admission (DSA-Sec) scheme will be taken online to observe safe distancing measures. Audition/Trials/Interviews will be conducted through video-conferencing tools.

Student Leadership

Student Leadership

Students should possess distinctive leadership qualities/disposition such as

  • Positive attitudes, e.g. persevering spirit, excellence mindset
  • Passionate in one’s pursuit
  • Confident communicators
  • Ability to work in teams


Students should hold a leadership position in the Primary School such as

  • School Prefect, e.g. Head Prefect, Vice Head Prefect
  • CCA Leader or other leadership position in the school


Students should include leadership involvement (if any) in school-wide events or events representing schools.

Shortlisted students will be invited for an interview via video-conferencing.

Performing Arts




Students should have

  • relevant accomplishments such as certification by accredited music examination boards


  • performed at zone / national level (e.g. SYF Arts Presentation, East Zone Music Competition, National Music Competition etc)


Students should be able to

  • appreciate and enjoy making music in the style of an ensemble
  • display an emotional connection to music while performing
  • work well with others as a team
Selection via video conferencing will be based on a combination of the following:

Part 1: Prepared Item
  • Guzheng and Harp students will perform 1 or 2 pieces of music of their own choice

  • Handbell students can put up a 1 to 2 min performance of pieces/songs learnt in primary school Music lessons or CCA. The students can sing or play on an instrument available from home (e.g. recorder, guitar, keyboard, hitting drum sticks on the table top, etc)

  • Violin and Piano students are welcome to apply. You will perform 1 to 2 pieces of music of your own choice.

Part 2: Audition Tasks will include the following
  • Imitate melodies and rhythms
  • Complete an opening rhythmic/melodic phrase on voice or instrument

Part 3: Interview

Table Tennis



  • should have represented in zone or national competitions or equivalent


  • are a Member of Junior Sports Academy (JSA)

Selection via video conferencing will be based on an Interview


Application Procedures

  1. Application for DSA-Sec can be submitted through the online DSA-Sec Portal. The application is free-of-charge and will be open from 12 May 2020 to 05 Jun 2020. For more details, please refer to MOE website – www.moe.gov.sg/dsa-sec.

  2. Parents and students are encouraged to choose schools wisely based on the student’s aptitudes and strengths, bearing in mind the schools’ academic and non-academic requirements, and the programmes available to develop the area of talent.

  3. Students who are shortlisted will be invited for a selection exercise via video-conferencing (VC). The VC comprises audition/trial followed by an interview.

  4. Students who are successfully admitted to the school via DSA are expected to honour their commitment to the school, and participate in the activities related to the talent they are selected for from Secondary 1 to 4.

  5. Students not studying in MOE mainstream primary schools and not taking the PSLE will need to sit for placement tests conducted by the school. International students not studying in MOE mainstream schools should register and take part in Admission Exercise for International Students (AEIS).

  6. Students will be informed of the outcome of their DSA Application by Monday, 14 September 2020.
