Direct School Admission to Secondary One in 2020

Paya Lebar Methodist Girls’ School (Secondary) is a school with a family culture, anchored on Christian beliefs and values. Selection Process

Student Leadership

  • Student Leadership

Students should possess distinctive leadership qualities/disposition such as

  • Positive attitudes, e.g. persevering spirit, excellence mindset
  • Passionate in one’s pursuit
  • Confident communicators
  • Ability to work in teams

Students should hold a leadership position in the Primary School such as

  • School Prefect, e.g. Head Prefect, Vice Head Prefect
  • CCA Leader or other leadership position in the school

Students should include leadership involvement (if any) in school-wide events or events representing schools

 

 

Shortlisted students will be invited for an interview.

 

 


Performing Arts

  • Guzheng
  • Handbells
  • Harp

Students should have

  • Relevant accomplishments such as certification by accredited music examination boards

     and/or

  • Participation in SYF Arts Presentation at zone / national level (e.g. East Zone Music Competition, National Music Competition etc.)

 

Students should be able to

  • appreciate and enjoy making music in the style of an ensemble
  • display an emotional connection to music while performing
  • work well with others as a team

Selection will be based on a combination of the following 2 parts

Part 1

  • Performance assessment
    • Guzheng and Harp students will perform 2 pieces of music of their own choice
    • Handbell students will be required to take part in a group audition
    • Violin and Piano students are welcome to apply. They will perform 2 pieces of music of their own choice. In addition, those students who apply to be accepted into Handbell Ensemble will also be required to go through the group audition

Part 2

  • Musicianship assessment, for example
    • pitch and rhythmic accuracy
    • ability to maintain a consistent tempo
    • sight-reading

Sports

 

  • Badminton
  • Rhythmic Gymnastics
  • Netball
  • Swimming
  • Table Tennis
  • Volleyball

Students should have represented in zone or national competitions or equivalent 

and/or
They are a Member of Junior Sports Academy (JSA)

 

Selection will be based on a combination of the following

  • Physical Ability Test
  • Sports Technical Skills Test
  • Personal Qualities

 

 

 

Application Procedures

  1. From 2019, application for DSA-Sec can be submitted online through the MOE centralised DSA-Sec The application is free-of-charge and will be open from 8 May to 4 Jun 2019. Applicants can access the MOE centralised DSA-Sec Portal using SingPass of one parent. For more details, please refer to MOE website – https://beta.moe.gov.sg/dsa/.
  2. Parents and students are encouraged to choose schools wisely based on the student’s aptitudes and strengths, bearing in mind the schools’ academic and non-academic requirements, and the programmes available to develop the area of talent.
  3. Students who meet the selection criteria will be invited to the school for an audition or trial. The table below provides the dates of DSA Auditions / Trials.

All students (except for swimmers) are required to report to the school’s General Office at least 15 minutes before the start time of audition / trial.

  1. All auditions and trials will be held at Paya Lebar Methodist Girls’ School (Secondary) except for Swimming which will be held at the Bishan Swimming Complex. Only students who passed the auditions and trials will be invited back for an interview in July 2019. Students who applied via talent area in leadership need not attend any auditions and trials, the school will contact the applicants for the interview if they have been shortlisted.
  2. Students not studying in MOE mainstream primary schools and not taking the PSLE will need to sit for placement tests conducted by the school.
  3. Students will be informed of the outcome of their DSA Application by Friday, 30 August 2019.
