Guzheng Ensemble

The PL Guzheng Ensemble was established in 1989 and made its debut in 1991 at the biennial Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) Central Judging of Instrumental Ensembles (Secondary Schools) and received a Gold Award. Since then it has been blessed with seven consecutive Gold Awards (1991 to 2003), four Gold with Honours (2005 to 2011), and three Distinction award (2013,2015,2017), the highest achievements possible for each SYF.

The Guzheng Ensemble also won a Gold Award in 2004 at the 21st Century International Chinese Music Festival held at Genting Highlands. The ensemble has also performed at school events as well as events organised by MOE, North East CDC and many other organisations. The PL Guzheng Tuan has also organised three school concerts, An Evening of PL Guzheng Melodies (2002) and Guzheng in Harmony (2007 and 2012). These concerts aimed to help raise funds and to provide a platform for pupils of PLMGS (Primary and Secondary) to perform together. In 2011, the PL Guzheng Ensemble was invited to perform for the National Kidney Foundation Charity Dinner at Orchid Country Club (April), the Conference Dinner of 11th Asian Congress of Nutrition at Pan Pacific Hotel (July) and the Opening Ceremony of the Volkswagen 2011 Women’s World Cup (October). In the year 2013, we also got the opportunity to perform in the Huayi festival at the outdoor theatre of Esplanade. In 2017 and 2018, the ensemble performed at River Hongbao Chinese New Year celebration and Ministry of National Development's annual get-together dinner event to celebrate the Lunar New Year respectively.
